Luis Muñoz is a composer, producer, arranger and percussionist from Costa Rica. He has released 9 CDs of his compositions as a leader, all of them receiving multiple accolades and awards from the world media.

His 2015 CD “VOZ”, a project with singers Claudia Acuña (Chile), Magos Herrera (México) and Téka (Brazil) was chosen by Downbeat Magazine among the “Best CDs of the Year” and by Jazziz Magazine among the “12 Best Albums of the Year”. Latin Jazz Network called it “A perfect Album” (5 Stars). It won two ACAM Awards (Association of Composers and Musical Authors) in Latin America, including “Jazz CD of the Year”.  Mr. Muñoz’s has received 6 ACAM  nominations and 4awards so far.  Mr. Muñoz was chosen among the “12 Best Artists of the Year” by NPR’s AltLatino.  His latest recording, “The Dead Man” (2017) was named “Best Record of the Year” in Jazziz Magazine.

Luis. Muñoz has performed in some of the best Jazz Festivals and theaters in the USA and abroad: from The Litchfield Jazz Festival in the East Coast to the San Jose Jazz Festival in the West Coast.  From the Moss Theater in Santa Monica, CA, the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara, CA to the National Opera House in Costa Rica.   

Mr. Muñoz just finished recording “The Infinite Dream” with Guyanese singe Lois Mahalia to be released in early 2019, and is currently working on “Canciones de Transfiguración y Esperanza”, a new collaboration with singer Magos Herrera.

Lois Mahalia

Lois Mahalia was born in British Guyana. She began singing and performing on stage at the age of 5 with her brothers. She moved to the USA at age 13 and continued singing in churches with her musical family.  She has done extensive work as a session artist and has performed, recorded and toured with artists such as Kenny Loggins, Joe Sample (of the Jazz Crusaders), Michael McDonald, Tom Petty’s Heartbreakrs, Norman Gimble and Joe Walsh of the Eagles.

She has been touring with The New Luis Muñoz Quartet since 2019, and is the featured singer in Mr. Muñoz’s last two CDs: “The Infinite Dream” (2019, named among The Ten Best Records of the Year in Jazziz Magazine”,  receiving 3 ACAM Award nominations, including for Jazz Record of the Year,  and “3/4 (Trio/Quartet)”, to be released in late 2022.

Randall Tico

Randy Tico is an award winning composer, bassist and producer from Santa Barbara, California. As a bassist he has worked with Jeff Bridges & the Abiders, Flora Purim and Airto, Matrix, Strunz and Farah, Ivan Lins, Dori Caymmi,John McEuen, Kenny Loggins, Jose Feliciano and many others.  

His compositions have been featured in "Steal Big, Steal Little" directed by Andrew Davis (the Fugitive), "The Housekeeper" and "Joe's Gyro Palace" for the FX Network's Independent Film Series, and in episodes for the syndicated TV series "Freddy's Nightmares". Tico is also known for his original scores for theater as a founding member of Critical Mass Performance Group as composer/sound designer with director Nancy Keystone:  Ameryka (Ovation nomination), Apollo (Garland Award and an Ovation Award nomination) Alcestis, Suzan-Lori Parks’ The America Play, and Antigone (Drammy Award). Tico has also been  composer/sound designer for the Launch Pad program at UCSB with director Risa Brainin, and has served as past musical director for Santa Barbara's celebrated Summer Solstice Parade for many years. He is also an educator, having worked as an instructor in Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

Dan Zimmerman

Dan has played guitar professionally in Southern California for more than 20 years. The numerous artists he has performed and recorded with include Raw Silk, Spencer the Gardner, Roy Galloway, Jay Ferguson from Spirit and the internationally renowned Latin Jazz artists Teka and Luis Munoz. A respected guitar instructor for more than 20 years, Dan has written several articles for Guitar Player Magazine and for the website truefire.com.  

Performing with artists from many different musical traditions has not only given Dan a broad repertoire of styles, songs and skills. It has also allowed him to develop an approach to all music that takes from the best of each of these traditions.  He brings a Jazz musician’s enthusiasm for improvisation to the excitement of rock while playing with the friendly openness of blues and folk.  This unique musical approach resulted in Dan’s first solo CD “Drifting Home, released in 2017.  The album was met with critical acclaim in the jazz/rock guitar world. Since then, Dan has been fronting his own band, performing his original compositions as a trio that features dynamic band interaction and improvisation and playing with Luis Munoz.
